Welcome Winter! A Winter Solstice Celebration at Rutherford Sayre Park

  • December 21, 2021
  • 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Welcome Winter!

Join neighbors and friends for some winter wonder in Rutherford Sayre Park's natural area, south of the tracks!

DATE: Tuesday, December 21, 2021

TIME: 4:00 - 5:00 pm

Just before sunset on winter solstice, we'll meet at the trail entrance through the fenced garden at Shakespeare and New England, then walk east on to the big spruce tree and decorate it with biodegradable ornaments for neighborhood birds and critters to enjoy this winter.

Please bring something to put on the wintertime tree — wildlife safe and biodegradable only, no plastic please!

RSVP to rspac@sbcglobal.net and we'll send instructions for making simple, wildlife friendly ornaments. Please make your ornaments and garlands beforehand to bring with your family.

BYO family hot cocoa for a sunset toast to winter beauty.

This is a free, family event to meet neighbors and enjoy the natural area as the season changes.

Presented by:

  • Rutherford Sayre Park Natural Area Volunteers
  • Rutherford Sayre Park Advisory Council (rspac@sbcglobal.net)
In partnership with:
  • Chicago Park District Natural Areas Community Stewardship Program

Note in the event of rain, the event rain date will be Tuesday, December 28, also from 4-5 pm. We won't cancel for snow, just rain.
